International Buses are identified by their chassis. These are all produced by Navistar International Corporation. They are the grand corporation that wholly owns production of any International bus. They own IC Corporation, which produces the bus in its entirety.
The real history behind the International Bus Company, however, can be most easily understood by the path taken by IC corp. In 1933, the company started off as Ward body works, when DH Ward made a modification to a bus design. It is amazing how giant corporations such as International Buses find their birth in such small and simple actions. Shortly after that, they started producing all metal body school buses. This was and is still to this day, the main focus of this company. International school buses are the large passenger school bus of America. Ward lasted until 1979, when enough struggle led to bankruptcy. Not to worry, because International bus sales continued thanks to none other than Bill Clinton. He put together a business group to buy up their assets, and the company was renamed the American Transportation Corporation (Amtran). After that, Navistar purchased a third of the company, and also arranged a deal to be allowed to purchase the remaining two thirds in 1995. They did so, and soon after replaced the Amtran name with ‘IC’, and exclusively produced full sized school buses.

If you are looking to get a new coach, you don’t necessarily have to get an international school bus for sale, but it is certainly the first place to look if you are after a full size bus.
